Teaching Description & Philosophy
With the proper teaching methods, Japanese can be a fun and easy language to learn. Through creative and innovative techniques, the complexity of Japanese vocabulary and sentence structure can easily be comprehended.
My philosophy is to tailor my lesson plans for the unique individual needs of my clients. This is done by incorporating their current knowledge level of the Japanese language with their primary Japanese conversation goals. For the beginner student, the first lessons involve learning the greeting conversations that Japanese people use everyday. The next lessons that follow will concentrate on basic sentence structure to incorporate the most frequently used vocabulary. The secret to fast and efficient language comprehension is memorizing high yield vocabulary. Once the student has a comfortable understanding of daily Japanese conversation, I then introduce Japanese etiquette to further develop professional Japanese communication skills.
My students have a wide variety of education needs and goals. The three most common reasons for taking Japanese lessons are: Business conversation, tourist travel to Japan, and high school and University test preparation. Therefore my lesson plans are individually tailored to accommodate my s specific needs and current Japanese language level. Depending on what a student wants, the grammar and vocabulary emphasis will vary. Upon first meeting the student, I will conduct an extensive interview to highlight main learning objectives.
Importance of Japanese Cultural Competence
Japanese society operates on a separate set of rules and customs. The average American who visits Japan for the first time is often shocked at the hierarchy indirectly expressed in the Japanese lifestyle. I can teach you the various rules on etiquette in a social or business setting. These skills will not only make you more comfortable, but will also give you the advantage of reflecting Japanese professionalism to your Japanese clients, which most Americans lack.
